Professor Cooper continues to work on legal reform and public education programs throughout Latin America. He co-directs a post-graduate program with the Heidelberg Center for Latin America, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public and International Law, the Universidad de Chile Escuela de Derecho with the Universidad Católica de Argentina (sede Paraná), UNAM (Mexico) and CEDEP (Paraguay). With Professor Justin Brooks from the California Innocence Project, Professor Cooper launched Red Inocente, a Latin American innocence project network with projects in Argentina, Chile and Peru.
Professor Cooper also directs the Chile Summer Program, sponsored by the Consortium for Innovative Legal Education. He has co-edited the book Amazonia (with Professor Christine Hunefeldt of University of California, San Diego) which is published by Sussex Academic Press (United Kingdom).
In the last few years, Professor Cooper’s work has taken him to Singapore and Taiwan, where he has lectured on the intersection of intellectual property, human rights, and international law. He is the director of Proyecto ACCESO, a leading rule of law education and legal skills training program in Latin America.
Professor Cooper is a member of the academic staff of the Heidelberg Center for Latin America. He consults for governments, writes regularly for newspapers, and appears on English and Spanish television on international law issues.
He works with students on projects involving comparative law, transnational litigation, access to justice, and sustainable development issues.
