In today’s global economy, lawyers increasingly encounter transnational issues in their practice. The ability to address problems in this global environment requires a solid understanding of international law and an appreciation of political, cultural, and linguistic differences.
Students electing to pursue this area of concentration must complete four principal requirements: (1) five courses in International Law or Comparative Law; (2) two scholarly papers; (3) an international law-related practicum; and (4) active membership in a relevant student/professional organization. The core courses are International Law and Comparative Law. Elective courses include Admiralty Law, Conflict of Laws, Foreign Affairs and the Constitution, Human Rights Law, Immigration Law, International Arbitration, International Business Transactions, International Environmental Law, International Labor & Employment Law, International Trade, Law of Armed Conflict, and Law of the Sea. Other approved courses, offered through San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego, also enrich California Western’s broad range of international and comparative offerings.
