Professor Finkmoore’s interest in environmental issues began at Stanford Law School, where he was publications director of the Environmental Law Society and interned with the Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. Following graduation, he taught at U.C. Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), clerked for a justice of the Washington Supreme Court, and was an assistant attorney general for the State of Washington.
Professor Finkmoore practiced law for 10 years, including seven years as partner in a law firm handling a variety of civil matters. Since joining the California Western faculty in 1988, Professor Finkmoore has performed pro bono work for Defenders of Wildlife, and has taught at the National Judicial College and in foreign study programs sponsored by the Consortium for Innovative Legal Education including the NAFTA Summer Program held at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto.
He has also taught in the Fair Trade Academy and Edinburgh Summer Program. He has taught environmental law at the University of California, San Diego where he continues to collaborate with the Institute for International, Comparative and Area Studies. His passion is educating others about the current global environmental crisis.
