ACCESO Director speaks in Davos during World Economic Forum

ACCESO Director and California Western School of Law Professor James Cooper spoke recently at the One World Blockchain Forum during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, Cooper spoke on "FinTech and the Need for Smart Regulation” to a group of government officials, innovators, investors and NGO activists. His talk provided a call to action for more harmonized regulation of Initial Coin Offerings and the trading of cryptocurrencies, particularly in Asia, the major trading region for these new financial instruments.

Cooper noted that the government of the Republic of Korea had caused volatility three weeks prior when it provided contrary messages on domestic regulation over a 24-hour period. Bitcoin dropped close to one quarter with such confused government response. “Governments are supposed to provide certainty,” Cooper explains. “They should stem volatility, not cause it."
